Marine/Aquatic Data Scientist

Hydrobiology is seeking a Marine and/or Freshwater scientist with demonstrable experience in the application of robust statistical and modelling approaches to address complex ecological questions. With priority given to the ability to undertake the data science component, we encourage scientists from a range of disciplines within marine and aquatic science to apply. We are a small, but specialist consultancy offering integrated services within the physical, biological and chemical processes of the marine and aquatic environment.
Candidates that are self-motivated, hard working and are able to work within a team environment across these disciplines are strongly encouraged to apply. The successful applicant will join our team in Perth working on an extensive range of projects in renewables, mining, utilities, oil and gas, and local government both here in Australia and abroad. Hydrobiology is certified to ISO45001 (Occupational health and safety) and ISO9001 (Quality), and a key requirement of the role is to work within these systems.
Position Objective / Description
The Marine/Aquatic Data Scientist position will be required to conduct a wide range of tasks related to environmental consultancy including:
As Hydrobiology conducts a wide range of projects across many aquatic science disciplines, the potential range of tasks is equally as wide. Therefore, the successful applicant will need to be adaptable, resourceful and a keen problem solver. In addition to the above, this role may also require elements of the following depending on experience of the applicant:
Applicants will be required to show evidence of having conducted modelling of aquatic systems using commonly available software. Programming/coding experience (e.g. R, Python) would also be well regarded. The role demands a high level of attention to detail, efficiency and the ability to be self-motivated. Prior experience in a consultancy environment will also be highly regarded however if the necessary skills can be demonstrated from other professional experience this will be considered. Occasional field surveys may require periods of up to 2 weeks away from home, including at international locations. A key attribute of the successful application will be that they can adapt to a wide range of tasks and effectively problem solve.
