The Tasmanian Government  has announced that it is slashing funding for the three Tasmanian Natural Resource Management (NRM) bodies.

Funding to each of the three NRM’s  - NRM North, NRM South and NRM Cradle Coast - was going from $480,000 this financial year, to $313,000 next financial year and $246,000 for 2012-13.

“We have had to review funding throughout Government as we work to find savings and develop a budget for these very challenging times,” Minister for Environment, Parks and Heritage, Brian Wightman said.

“That has required tough decisions and unfortunately one of the savings we have made is the reduced funding to the Natural Resource Management committees.

“Our Government will continue to provide funding to the NRMs, at a reduced level, as well as deliver partnership and in-kind support to help ensure that the NRMs are able to continue their important role.”
