Sydney Water has won two awards for its $209 million St Marys Water Recycling Project which provides up to 50 million litres of high quality recycled water a day that flows into the Hawkesbury-Nepean River.

The first award recognised Sydney Water for its project management of the site in the Sustainable Projects Category at the NSW Project Management Achievement Awards.

The second award was for engineering excellence in the Environment and Heritage Category at the Engineers Australia Awards Sydney Division.

“St Marys Water Recycling Project is one of the largest recycled water schemes in New South Wales. About 1,840 people worked on the project, either at the plant site or building the 52 kilometres of pipelines,” Sydney Water Managing Director, Kevin Young said.

“The Water Recycling Plant collects and transports treated wastewater from three plants at Quakers Hill, Penrith and St Marys. Fifty-two kilometres of pipelines connect the three sewage treatment plants to the water recycling plant at St Marys.
