The Queensland Government has extended the consultation period for its Biodiversity Strategy until April 8.

The strategy sets out the primary objectives of building protected areas, conserving species and managing the extent, condition and connectivity of biodiversity.  It identifies the key threatening processes to meeting these objectives, progress that has been made and is ongoing through various programs and sets targets to be achieved by 2020.

The main strategy document is accompanied by ‘Protected areas for the future: cornerstones for terrestrial biodiversity conservation’, which provides a deeper look into how an expanded protected area system will be developed.
