As opposition to Coal Seam Gas initiatives in Australia continues to expand, the United States has begun claiming there is no link between gas fracking and underground water contamination.

The US Environmental Protection Agency says it will no longer have experts review the theory that hydraulic fracturing can cause groundwater pollution, after finding no link for the third time in a case brought about in Wyoming.

The US has a great deal invested in developing its terrestrial energy sector, with thousands of CSG wells dotting the countryside, the new finding has been welcome news to the oil and gas industries.

Fracking involves injecting fluids into cracks in rock formations to widen them and allow more oil and gas to escape, increasing the amounts that can be recovered.

The EPA is currently working on another nationwide study on the effects of fracking on drinking water, which the agency said won’t be completed until 2016.
